AnswerIT — Privacy Policy

AnswerIT ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps you generate answers for job application forms using AI models and pre-saved text snippets. This policy describes all user data the Extension collects, how it is used, where it is stored, how long it is kept, and every party it is shared with. The developer of AnswerIT does not operate any server, does not receive any of your data, and does not use analytics or tracking of any kind.

1. Data the Extension Collects and Stores

All of the following data is provided directly by you or read from the web page you are actively using, and is stored only locally on your device in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). None of it is transmitted to the developer.

The Extension does not collect browsing history, does not read pages in the background, does not track which sites you visit, and does not collect any data automatically. Page content is only accessed at the moment you explicitly invoke the Extension on a form field or selected text.

2. How Data Is Used

Your resume text, the application question, the scraped job posting text, and your tone/length preferences are combined into a prompt used to generate an answer.
Your API key is used solely to authenticate that request with the provider you selected.
Quick Snippets are inserted into form fields locally and never leave your browser.
Data is never used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose unrelated to generating your requested answer.

3. Data Sharing — All Parties

The Extension shares data with only one party per request: the AI provider you have selected and supplied an API key for. When you trigger answer generation, the following is transmitted over HTTPS directly from your browser to that provider's official API endpoint: your API key, the application question text, the detected job posting text, your saved resume text, and your tone/length/custom-instruction preferences.

Once transmitted, that data is handled under the selected provider's own privacy policy and API data-usage terms. No data is shared with any other party. The developer does not sell, rent, trade, or transfer user data to anyone. There are no analytics services, advertising networks, or data brokers involved.

4. Data Storage and Security

All stored data (API keys, resumes, snippets, preferences, activity log) resides exclusively in chrome.storage.local on your own device. No copy exists on any developer-operated server, because none exists.
All network requests to AI providers use encrypted HTTPS connections initiated directly from your browser.
Data is not synced across devices by the Extension.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Locally stored data persists until you delete it. You can edit or delete resumes, snippets, API keys, and logs at any time from the Extension's Settings page.
Uninstalling the Extension permanently removes all locally stored data.
Retention of data transmitted to your chosen AI provider is governed by that provider's policy; the developer has no access to it and no ability to retrieve or delete it.

6. Your Choices and Rights

AI features are entirely opt-in per use — nothing is sent anywhere unless you click the generate button, press the shortcut, or use the context menu.
You choose which AI provider (if any) receives your data.
You can use Quick Snippets only, in which case no data ever leaves your browser.
You can review, modify, or erase all stored data from the Settings page at any time.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension is intended for job seekers and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date, and material changes will be noted in the Extension's release notes.
